I have done some thinking about this:
Today is not like years ago, you could meet people, and a huge portion were decent folk.
I don't want to sound ''gloom & doom'', but one Must be careful...today.
Good old fashion fun, and people who you can trust has really changed.
I personally feel the internet could be one way, but! you must not rush into anything.Get to know that person quite well before hand.
If you have an interest like art, you could do workshops and others like sewing.Being around 'like-minded-people' is very nice.
You may also like to go along to a church, you don't have to be overly religious.....they normally have ladies groups etc.I know also The Salvation Army have great fellowship.
Think about joining an Organisation...maybe you can donate 4 hours of your week to volunteer, that's a great way to make new friends.
You want quality friends, so look in quality places.
Although I like chatting to people online, I would not feel comfortable with it being a platform to meet new people in the real word. I think the best way to meet new people is by going to places that interest you, and meeting people who share that interest. For example, joining a club - sports, craft, art, writing, etc.
