Best plants to encourage bees in the garden?

If you want to encourage bees into your garden, which plants are most likely to attract them?

Bees love all sorts of floweers: borage, queen anne's lace and cosmos for annuals. Lavender, artichokes and delphiniums are perrenial examples.

If you are wanting to attract bees for pollination purposes make sure you try to plant something that flowers at the same time as the relevent fruit or vegetable!

Native plants
Take a look at the type of honey you can buy - heather, lavender, clover, wildflower. these are the kinds of plants that attract bees the most.
From personal experience, I would say lavender.
