It all depends?
If for a child, then anything over $10.
Paying less, is buying rubbish. If we want to encourage children to do art,
we should invest in a little better quality.
If it were for an adult!! that's a whole different story.
Then one should not buy at child level quality, only because it will not
give a half decent result.
Even if it is the first time effort....Id I were to pick a brand it would be
Faber Castle or Derwent.
I've got one practically identical to the one in the picture. It is one I have from when I was a child. Most of the crayons have melted, most of the felt tips have tried out, and the paints are all cracked too. I only use the coloured pencils now, but they're not for professional use. I'm not much of an artist, so I don't see the point in investing in anything else right now though.
I don't know about nowadays but Derwent Coloured pencils used to be the "thing" to have when I was at school -probably not even around any more but they were fabulous and far better than anything else around!
