Most people love a good scare, and what better way to get it than a nice creepy late-night read. There are so many amazing authors who write to scare, King, Koontz, Carpenter, just to name a few. Even Stephen King’s son has started writing horror under the name Joe Hill. So who’s the best? Is King the king, or does maybe Koontz, Hill another name take the crown on your bookshelf?
I've done a lot of Stephen King in the past and he's always been hit or miss with me, and by a large margin. I've either really loved a book or been bored to death by it. Under the Dome has been my most recent King read and it was certainly a 'love'. It was probably the best book I've read in the past decade but overall as a horror writer, King doesn't top my list. Two indie writers do though, JA Konrath and Iain Rob Wright, Konrath has been around for a long time, and he is always great for a fast-paced scare. Iain Rob Wright is relatively new and his writing is more on the creepy, make-you-think, side of scary. Both are very much worth checking out.
